Singing with the Alexander Technique:
How does it help?

Singing

The Alexander Technique can transform your singing. If you're a singer, all you have is yourself. You are the instrument. And as all instrumentalists take care of their instrument, then you need to take care of yours. The way you stand when you sing can affect not only the tone of your voice, but also your stamina and mindset.

I trained in the Alexander Technique expressly to teach people how to sing without stress. I have seen so much conflicting advice and quick wins for singing, but if your basic use isn't good, you will end up causing damage to your voice. Reading about vocalists at the top of their game having to cancel shows and tours because of vocal strain frustrates me, and I believe that so much of this is avoidable.

I can help you with your voice. We will work on your general use and habits and experiment to see where there is room for improvement. We can work in person or online. We can cover singing in venues, in studios, and microphone technique, as well as stage presence, movement, projection and performance anxiety. If you play another instrument while singing, we can work on that too.

Where am I coming from?

Singing is my personal passion. I've been singing all my life, and first recorded professionally at the age of 4. I've sung in most conceivable situations, from large shows to busking (singing down the high street is an incredibly liberating experience!). I also play piano, guitar and saxophone, and so I can help with any other instruments as well.
